TreeScale builds reliable growth engines for tree services —
so that you can hire, invest, and grow with confidence.
You're the one answering the phone. You're the one driving out to look at the tree, size up the job, quote the price. You're the one following up when the customer goes quiet. The hiring, the scheduling, the equipment, the insurance, the payroll — all of it lands on you.
You've got a crew to do the work. What you don't have is anyone else to run the business.
And on top of all of it, you're supposed to figure out digital advertising too. Learn the platforms, manage the campaigns, track the results, fix it when it stops working. Or pay someone else to do it and hope they actually know what they're doing.
That's not a reasonable ask of someone who's already doing everything.
What changes things is having a real lead generation engine — something predictable enough that you can actually plan around it. When you know that X dollars in means Y jobs out, you can hire without hesitation, delegate without worry, and finally start building the business instead of just running it.
Consistent leads. Booked jobs. A business you can actually plan around. It exists — and you don't have to figure it out alone.
I ran a tree business for seven years. Grew it entirely on word of mouth. Did great work. Built a solid reputation. And whenever a marketer called trying to sell me "leads," I had the perfect answer — "I'm already too busy."
I'd hang up feeling like I had it all figured out.
I was wrong.
When the phone calls slowed down, I'd worry. When there were too many, I'd drown. I didn't know how to control it. I was the leader. I was supposed to have the answers, right?
But in truth, I had no idea how to make the phone ring consistently — and that was the shameful little secret that led me to burning out and shutting it down.
I didn't know it then, but it was because I couldn't trust where the next job was coming from that I never felt comfortable hiring the help that would have freed me up to actually grow.
We doubled revenue every year — until I hit the ceiling of my capacity. Not because the work wasn't good. But because you can't solve a capacity problem without consistent leads to fuel the growth.
I used to say I wanted to grow sustainably. To me, that meant earning word of mouth — slow, manageable, controllable. But sustainable doesn't have to mean slow. It just means sustainable. And steady, predictable lead flow is about as sustainable as it gets.
It wasn't that I had no ideas. I read the marketing books. I tried things. But I had a business to run — bids to do, payroll to meet, a crew to line out, trees to climb. I didn't have time to track results, test strategies, and master lead generation on top of everything else.
After closing the business, I took a role in membership marketing with the International Society of Arboriculture — yep, that ISA, at their headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. From there I went on to coach for one of the most respected small business coaching programs in the world — working one on one with business owners from $200K to $12MM across the US and around the world, helping them build the systems I wished I'd had.
And the whole time I was learning this stuff, I kept thinking about what I could have built if I'd learned it earlier. And thinking about my friends in trees — and how much it would help them.
What I know now is this — word of mouth is essential. If your work isn't worth talking about, none of this matters. But word of mouth alone isn't a growth strategy. It's a starting point. Pair it with something predictable, something you can actually control, and you've got a real growth engine.
That's TreeScale. Built by someone who's been in your boots. Someone who's felt the anxiety, hit the ceiling, and then spent years learning how to fix it. An ISA Certified Arborist who became a marketing and systems specialist — so that you don't have to.
I came back to fix the thing that held me back. And I'd like to help you fix it too.
"I always leave our calls feeling energized and with a greater sense of clarity. Dan asks great questions and challenges me to look at things through a different lens."
"You have been an inspiration and a God-send. I would have closed up shop two years ago had you not come along."
"Dan always breaks it down, guides me through my thought process, and leads me to greater understanding."
